2014 has been an interesting one. The last twelve months have seen three publications of my photography (National Geographic Online, Telegraph Travel, One&Other), involvement in some great shorts (cheers, Paul!), time out to travel and, more recently, a move southwards to take up my new post at Films at 59 (Blue Planet, Africa, GBBO).

But, more than that, I’ve taken a lot of time to think about what I want from my career and the things I do. I feel very privileged to have been able to work on the projects I have to date, whether that’s been abroad (shout out to the Sydneysiders out there), crewing on my first feature by the time I was 22, exploring some of the best post houses in the country, or simply spending time in a warehouse with friends hazing the shit out of the place with a smoke machine for arty shots. And I love that, doing what I do, I get to watch the sun rise and set in some incredible places and meet some damn interesting people.

However, having worked flat out for the past six years, I want more time to travel and spend with the ones I love. For this reason, my current edit project will be my last. Freelance offline work is something I’ve been winding down for the last 18 months anyway, as I want to make space to spend more time on colour and photography work. Instead, I have some pretty exciting plans for 2015 and I can’t wait to share them, but for now it’s to mulled wine, Christmas lights, and that cute fluffy mantlepiece reindeer I still haven’t bought but definitely will tomorrow!

It’s been strange to leave for pastures new, but after five years in the North, four of those being spent in Yorkshire, it seems fitting that I’ve moved with the announcement that York has finally been awarded the status of a UNESCO City for Media Arts. A lot of great people have worked tirelessly to bring this to fruition and it’s a fantastic recognition of a beautiful city’s thriving industry, community and vision.

See you all in 2015!
