Well, 2017 was another busy one.

FILM & TELEVISION

In May, I was thrilled to take up the position of Vision Logistics Coordinator in the Vision Department at Films at 59. Working on some of the most watched television in the UK, my role is to ensure technical coordination of media assets across multiple departments for the online process, as well as suite setup. With 9 busy finishing suites and 12 craft staff, 2017 flew by! And seeing people’s responses to series like Blue Planet II has been wonderful. I can’t wait for the projects 2018 brings!

ART

2017 was also the year I dipped my toe into the water with exhibiting my photography and artwork. Yes, I can confirm that carrying heavy framed prints across Shoreditch by yourself isn’t the best idea. Oops. However, it was fantastic seeing my work printed and up on walls. Two exhibitions and one art auction later, and I’ve got a much clearer idea of where I want to take this in 2018. Fingers crossed for some more gallery interest!

PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m also determined to start entering photographic competitions. Making the editors’ favourites on National Geographic several times over was a nice surprise last year, and a good motivator to push my work further. In the latter half of December, I finally entered Lens Culture for the first time. Whilst I’m not expecting to win, I am looking forward to the portfolio review that comes with entry. Getting experienced feedback on what’s working and what’s not is incredibly helpful to seeing your work afresh and taking it up a level.

BLOGGING

Lastly, I also started blogging more about the home and living spaces and how our sense of placemaking intersects with our modern world. It’s something that interests me hugely, especially when considered alongside the progression of tech, rapid urbanization and intensifying housing crisis. A little different from my usual shares perhaps, but I’ve loved delving into these topics, so expect a few more posts over the coming months!

Happy New Year all! I hope 2018 brings you good times, happiness and much laughter.
